QEBF COUNTRY CUP – FINAL WRAP UP

Congratulations to our brilliant City 8-Ball team who finished 2nd out of 15 QEBF associations in last weekend’s Country Cup!

Ishtiyaaq Noorah, Stephen Moore, Bardy Thompson, Ian Hawksby, Ryan Galea, and Roy Knight all deserve massive congratulations for the way they played all weekend; as mentioned in the presentations City 8-Ball were the standout team all tournament!
City was undefeated in the Round Robin, topped the ladder with 12 wins and 2 draws, had 5 x 11-1 wins, and came oh so close to winning the Grand Final.

Congratulations individually to Stephen Moore who won MVP (player of the tournament) with 24 wins from 28 frames!
Also congratulations to Ryan who topped the B grade stats with the same 24 wins, to Ishtiyaaq 2nd in A grade stats, to Ian 3rd in B grade stats, and to Roy and Bardy making the top 10 B grade stats!

On the final day our City team played Sunny Coast (7) in the Preliminary Final for a spot in the Grand Final. Sunny Coast came out firing after just beating Darling Downs (3) earlier, and got out to a 3-2 lead, only for our City legends to show their skills and determination to win 5 of the next 6 matches to win 7-4!

On to the Grand Final, City matched up against Ipswich (2) who had just beaten Gympie (4). The AFL-style final system proved correct with the top 2 teams meeting in the Grand Final. After a tense start where Ipswich really came to play and led 4-1, City edged back to 5-3 down, then our City boys stepped up and won the next 3 matches to get us on the hill at 6-5. It wasn’t to be in the final frame, with 1 of 3 uncharacteristic in-offs in the final, and Ipswich winning that one for a 6-all draw and onto a 1 frame shootout!
Our fearless Captain Ishtiyaaq stepped up, and after a close tactical battle worthy of a final, unfortunately, the frame and final were decided by a contentious subjective loss of frame foul.

Congratulations to Ipswich for winning the Country Cup, and commiserations to our lads who gave it everything representing City 8-Ball with distinction.

Huge thanks to QEBF, Norths Cue Sports for hosting, Jay Windross tournament director, and team manager Shane Alexander. And thanks to all the teams for a fantastic tournament!
